I graduated from Birmingham University with a degree in Chemistry in 1979. Since then I’ve lived in Birmingham and for the past (almost!) 30 years I’ve lived in Stirchley (next door to Bournville and Selly Oak for non Brummies!) which is less than two miles from the university campus. And how often have I been back ? I’m really not sure, but I would guess that it has been at least 30 years since I was last there! That is, until this weekend. I was prompted by a post on LinkedIn which was highlighting Birmingham University as the 8th most beautiful university in Britain based on an article in the Daily Telegraph.

Here is the Library, exactly as I remember the view…except that they’ve added ‘stuff’ to the Muirhead Tower. I assume this has been to strengthen it as I seem to recall that it wasn’t quite as soundly constructed as it could have been!
I hope, if you attended Birmingham University but haven’t been back in a while, that these have sparked some happy memories. I certainly enjoyed my stroll around the old place.
